900W and 1300W models bring production-grade welding within reach, combining built-in wire feeding with precise process control for everyday metalwork.
ACMER introduces XMetal, its first handheld laser welding system, marking the company’s entry into handheld laser welding for fabrication, repair, prototyping, and small-batch production. Built around the needs of working metal shops, XMetal combines steel welding capacity, integrated wire feeding, and adjustable process controls to help users bring laser welding into their existing workflows.
The launch centers on a clear proposition: bring production laser welding within reach. For sheet metal fabricators, repair professionals, and metal product designers, that means a system that pairs practical welding capability with fewer external components to set up and move between workstations.
XMetal comes in two power configurations. The 1300W model delivers up to 6 mm of single-side penetration on stainless steel and carbon steel, while the 900W model supports up to 4 mm. Both models incorporate an automatic wire feeder supporting 0.8–1.6 mm filler wire. Integrating the feeder into the system reduces the need for a separate feeding unit and helps simplify equipment placement, cable management, and movement between jobs. This design is particularly relevant to smaller workshops and teams working across multiple stations.
XMetal balances fast setup with detailed process control. Simple Mode offers more than 100 presets, helping operators quickly select settings for the material and thickness at hand. Expert Mode enables laser power adjustment from 10% to 100% in 1% increments, alongside control over scan width, scan frequency, wire feed speed, and pulse settings. Operators can start with a preset, then fine-tune the process to suit the joint and desired finish.
Designed for everyday workshop use, XMetal combines active airflow and phase-change thermal management to draw heat away from critical components. Built-in thermal protection and fault diagnostics help operators monitor the system and identify issues during routine work.
Beyond welding, XMetal supports handheld cutting and surface cleaning for part preparation and finishing. Both the 900W and 1300W models offer handheld cutting of stainless steel up to 3 mm thick, helping operators trim workpieces and prepare parts for fabrication. For removing rust, oxides, and surface residue, the standard lens provides a 4 mm cleaning width in a single pass. Switching to an F800 focusing lens expands that width to 10 mm, covering a wider area with each pass.
Safety features are integrated into XMetal’s design. A contact-based activation circuit requires contact between the nozzle and the connected workpiece before laser emission, helping reduce the risk of unintended firing. An emergency stop, a key-operated switch, and an interlock interface provide additional safeguards, while on-screen safety guidance appears at first startup. OD8-rated laser protective eyewear is included with the system, supporting operator protection as part of a properly controlled Class 4 laser workspace.
With XMetal, ACMER expands its product portfolio into handheld laser welding, giving metalworking professionals and small production teams a new option for turning designs, repairs, and fabrication projects into finished work.
